About
Hi, I’m Janet!
Once upon a time I lived in the UK. I moved to the sunny Gold Coast here in Australia in 2018 with my Aussie husband and two young kids who hate wearing hats and suncream in equal measure.
My first job in Australia was as a copywriter and communications coordinator for a university’s international marketing department and when that contract ended I went freelance. I cut my writing chops writing for national and international newspapers and magazines on travel, lifestyle, opinion, science, health, wellbeing, and relationships.
I have worked with clients across health, SaaS, travel, public sector, education, HR and workplace culture, law, insurance, publishing and more! I also work with clients and content marketing agencies writing branded, sponsored, native content and custom content.
I’ve also done a couple of contract gigs as a freelancer. In 2022 I was freelance editor of national B2B publication, Education Matters Magazine (K - Y12) and national B2C publication, WhichSchool? Magazine. Education Matters Magazine is distributed to business managers and teachers across Australia. WhichSchool? magazine is a premium guide to private schools. I was responsible for the end to end production of the magazines, a bi-weekly e-newsletter along with ad, EDM, and social media content.
Before I went freelance in early 2020 I worked in various content focused communications and marketing roles for over 15 years, writing and editing engaging content for both digital and print. I am adept at turning detailed, academic, scientific and technical information into plain English ensuring content resonates with the target audience and highlights any products, services or key messaging.
Fun facts about me:
It gives me a buzz striking up conversations with strangers in coffee shops, there is nothing more interesting than people.
We have a rescue cat named Socks (Sockochino) who swings wildly between cuddly and sweet and trying to hang off our bare legs with his claws.
I’ve recently started taking surfing lessons - and haven’t told any friends or family. My husband teaching me always seems to end in tears (his). The plan is to one day go to the beach and jump on a killer wave while they all stand aghast. I’ll emerge, surfboard under my arm and say, ‘What? Like it's hard?”...
